Autism Assessment Service

ADOS-2

TTS offers ADOS-2 assessments for diagnosing Autism Spectrum Disorder in toddlers, children, adolescents and adults. The ADOS-2 is administered by Marcy Webb, EdD, LPC-MHSP. Dr. Webb is a licensed professional counselor with specialized training and over 20 years of experience working with individuals on the autism spectrum.

The ADOS-2 is a semi-structured interview which includes games and activities allowing the examiner to assess various behaviors in as natural a setting as clinically possible. Dr. Webb also incorporates additional assessments such as the Gilliam Autism Rating Scale, or the Child Behavior Checklist, depending on age and developmental level, into her Autism assessment process and procedures.

What is the ADOS-2?

The ADOS-2 assessment is the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule, Second Edition, authored by Catherine Lord, PhD, Michael Rutter, MD, et al., and published by WPS. It is a semi-structured, standardized assessment instrument that includes a number of play-based activities designed to obtain information in the areas of communication, reciprocal social interactions, and restricted and repetitive behaviors associated with a diagnosis of ASD.

What is the ADOS-2 used for?

The ADOS-2 allows you to accurately assess and diagnose autism spectrum disorders across age, developmental level, and language skills.

What does the ADOS-2 measure?

The ADOS-2 provides a highly accurate picture of current symptoms, unaffected by language. It can be used to evaluate almost anyone suspected of having ASD—from 1-year-olds with no speech to adults who are verbally fluent.

ADOS- 2 Assessment consists of 2 appointments:

1st Appointment:

Dr. Marcy Webb spends the first hour completing a developmental interview. If the person being assessed is a minor, it is preferable that this first hour is parent-only. If at all possible, the minor child should be in the care of another family member during this time. Or if the minor is a teenager, they may be able to sit by themselves. The developmental interview may be completed through telehealth if needed.

For the second hour, Dr. Webb will conduct the autism assessment using the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS-2). For children under the age of 5, the parent will be in the room during the assessment so as not to create separation anxiety. This part of the assessment must be done in person.

The parent and/or person assessed will have some forms to complete, such as the Gilliam Autism Rating Scale, or the Child Behavior Checklist, depending on age and developmental level. Dr. Webb will provide these assessments.

At the end of this session, Dr Webb will schedule a 1 hour – 1.5 hour follow up appointment to go over the results. Prior to the final assessment report, Dr. Webb review any relevant assessment forms, review any records that the person has provided, and complete a report, which will include whether or not the person qualified for a diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder.

2nd Appointment:

During this session, Dr. Webb will meet with the person to review the report together. This appointment will take up to an hour and a half to give plenty of time to ask questions and discuss recommendations. The person will be provided a copy of the report and any relevant graphs or charts from the Checklist assessments. This appointment may be completed through telehealth if needed.

ADOS-2 Fee is $1,500.
